Giku - Anaerobic Honey // Kayanza, Burundi
A long stretch of fifteen kilometers dirt road lies between Giku Hill and the Bukeye Washing where the farmers will deliver cherry. Although there are many small rivers running through this region, the communities that live here have little access to clean drinking water and are far beyond the reach of electricity. Coffee is the most important crop grown on the hill as it provides a higher income potential and access to better financial opportunities.
Our long-standing partners in Burundi from the Long Miles Coffee Project work to equip farmers with sustainable farming practices, helping them understand the importance of planting shade trees, growing green manures, mulching their land, and seasonally pruning their coffee trees. By working closely with producers—guiding them through the cherry-picking process and offering hands-on support—Long Miles fosters self-sufficiency and provides farmers with better access to resources, creating more sustainable futures for their families.
