Mohammed Aba Nura - Natural // Jimma, Ethiopia
Mohammed Aba Nura is part of a new generation of Ethiopian coffee producers reclaiming control over their craft. For years, Ethiopia’s Commodity Exchange (ECX) dictated how coffee was sold, limiting traceability and direct trade opportunities. Recent legal reforms have allowed smallholders like Aba Nura to obtain export licenses, giving them the power to negotiate directly with buyers and set their own prices.
For Aba Nura, this shift is transformative. His 35.7-hectare farm in Jimma was once dependent on the ECX, but now, with full control over growing, processing, and exporting, he ensures both higher quality and fairer compensation for his work.
This lot features JARC 74110, a variety developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center in the 1970s for its disease resistance and high yield. Sourced from wild coffee trees in Metu-Bishari, it was selected for its resilience against Coffee Berry Disease (CBD), making it an ideal choice for smallholder farms. Compact and efficient, JARC 74110 reflects Ethiopia’s legacy of coffee innovation, offering both sustainability and exceptional quality.
